THE PDA AND THE DOMINATORS
The Professional domino Association (PDA) was created in 2005 by Jay King, co-founder of R&B group Club Nouveau and Lanz Alexander. The goal and purpose of the PDA were to support professional domino players across the country by providing a competitive platform for professional domino players and establishing standard rules for the game.
The Kansas City Show-Me Domino Dominators, a professional domino team actually dominated the inaugural season of The Professional Domino Association (PDA) in 2006 and again in 2007. This team of players although based in Kansas City, Missouri consisted players from several other states.
Three times world champion Travis Newsome of Kansas City was player/owner. Other Kansas City Players included JEROME WOOTEN, world champion ROBERT NEWSOME, EDDIE RICE, world champion WAYNE MORROW, world champion JERRY NEWSOME and RICKEY RAMBO. Other players included NATE TSEGAY of Oakland, CA, 12 times world champion HAROLD MARLER of Clinton, MS, and 2 times world champion DALE BARNES of McAlester, OK. These were the original team members in 2006. Later in the year, the following players also became Dominators, WALLACE HARTSFIED of Atlanta/Kansas City, LOUIS ROSS, TIM RICE and TRACY WOOTEN and Chris Authement of Shreveport, LA. This team was truly DOMINATING.
The dominators won 1st place in 9 of the 14 Tournaments held by the PDA in 2006. JEROME won 3 times, Nate Tesgay won 3 times, and Robert Newsome and Wayne Morrow and Harold Marler each one once. Twice (Cleveland and Kansas City) the Dominators took the top 3 spots which came with $22,500.00 of prize money. They won 3 of the top four places in Chicago in 2006 with Harold Marler winning first place. At the end of the PDA 2006 season, Dominators held 7 of the top ten spots with Jerome Wooten leading the way at first place. The other top ten players were, Nate Tesgay, Harold Marler, Dale Barnes, Eddie Rice, Wayne Morrow and Travis Newsome.
In 2007 with a limited roster, the Dominators dominated again winning 6 of the 12 tournaments held by the PDA. Nate Tsegay won 4 times with Jerome Wooten and Travis Newsome each winning once.
The Dominators are anxiously awaiting the fall of 2010 because the PDA is scheduling a $30,000.00 tournament in Los Angeles. In addition to the LA tournament, the PDA will establish leagues across the country that will compete on a weekly basis with the idea and understanding that top league players will be invited to LA for next year’s annual PDA tournament.
